Phil Morsman
The Cumberland Infirmary was a £43m PFI new build hospital that incorporated commissions into the hospital architecture. The commissions programme used the link between health and culture for its visual direction. The artwork enhances the hospital environment and contributes to patient care and public use, whilst adding to the quality of people’s experience of the building.

A large scale painting/inkjet banner entitled River of Life, by painter Phil Morsman, was installed in 2000. Each panel is 9m long and the work integrates references to health, philosophy, geography and life.
