Andy Goldsworthy - Sheepfolds | Back

Client: Cumbria County Council

Artist: Andy Goldsworthy

Sheepfolds is a Cumbria-wide sculpture project which uses sheepfolds, washfolds and pinfolds as specific locations for the artist to place permanent and ephemeral sculptures.

The project's objective was to have up to 100 works that explored the varied and changing environments and landscapes of both rural and urban Cumbria.

The final pinfold was created at Wigton in 2009 to complete the project.

Sheepfolds has been described in the Smithsonian Institute Magazine as "probably the most extensive and least obtrusive public art project in the world."
