Off The Wall had a series of 23 workshops organised along the line of the wall, close to all the venues, before the play arrived. Among other things, it meant each performance had its own painted backdrop to the play, created by members of its own community. This backdrop remains with the community as a permanent memento of the occasion. The visual art workshops which created the backdrops were run by Gilly Walton at Bowness, Stuart Firth at Kirkandrews and Newtown, Karen McDougal at Gilsland, Henshaw School and Humshaugh, and Richard Jardine at Walbottle, Queen Elizabeth High School and Wallsend People's Centre.
