where she is an English Teacher at the American Language Centre.
She is a founding member of the first House of Poetry in Morocco
and of the Center for Mediterranean Center and In 2001 became
a member of the Union of Moroccan Writers.
In 1995 Hafsa participated in the 4th Conference on Women in Beijing
where she presented a research paper entitled : "Signs and
Sounds of Maghrebi Women".
Hafsa speaks of her connection to Writing on the Wall. "
The UK has always been a literary dreamland for me. A pen pal
sent me a picture of the Beatles when I was 12. I've been speaking
the language for 40 years; landing therefore, in the country that
produced Milton, Shakespeare, Shelley, Blake, the Bronties, Dickens,
Eliot and more... What a joy ! I love British people's freedom
of mind and their keen sense of humour."
Hafsa spent most of her time based in Bowness on
Solway, which had originally been a site where Moroccan Auxiliaries
had been stationed. She explored the landscape, grew to know the
local people and commented on this small Cumbrian Village's culture,
and friendliness. She also gave readings in local Primary Schools
and helped to further cement Anglo-Arab relations, in a time of
heightened tension.
She also visited a number of places along the line of the wall
with Hashem Shafiq and collaborated with him on translating his
poems.
